Second Hand Lions Roadtrip "2008"

Wkay left Orangeville on October 13th for a week long trip driving to Saskatchewan, Canada to hunt geese. They started out with 6 hunters. The herd was thinned to three by the time they got to the Canadian Border by unforeseen circumstances. All in all they had a fabulous time and shot many geese. Wkay,a co-worker Dewey and Jesse sizing up their kill.

Mike bought this van for $100.00. Tuned it all up and it became the Second Hand Lions Den. It made traveling very comfy. Jesse sizing up the van and the kill.

This was a quaint little 90 year old church near Preeceville, Canada.

The Canadians in Endeavour have a unique set-up. That is a combination Post Office and Liquor Vending Store.

Poster Boy

On Tuesday we traveled to St. George, Utah for Wkay's three month checkup. This is the bulding where we spent most of our time in the 2 months we were living in Leeds, Utah. We visited this building at least once a day, sometimes twice a day and the days Wkay got his big chemo treatments we were there all day ( 10 hours). This actually became like a second home.
As Aways, after check in, we visited with Mary Cowlishaw. She is Wkay's case manager. She will follow him for the rest of his life because of the Erbutux test trial. She also doubles as the vampire which Wkay always enjoys.
We heard some very sad news while we were talking to Mary. Her assistant, Veronica, had committed sucide and left two children behind. Her daughter, (13 years old) was the one that had found her.
Then off to see Dr Christian Hyde. Doesn't he look young. He always gives Wkay a very extensive exam including a naso-pharangyl scope, palpatation of his throat inside and out. Also, which Wkay really enjoys. He gets through this with much self control with the gag reflex. Dr Hyde is always very impressed with his ability to be able to do that. But after all he has had a lot of practice. In the end he came out with a very good report.
They also stated that Wkay is the Poster Boy because he was able to get through all of his treatments without a feeding tube. They use him as an example.

Battle Scars

Canyoneering is very dangerous and you can expect to get some battle scars along the way.

Wkay's Lastest & Greatest

On Thursday, September 25, 2008, Wkay hooked up the fith-wheeler and traveled to Beaver, Utah where he met his brother Mike. From there the went on down I-15 to the Leeds RV park where they stayed for 4 days.

From Leeds they made three canyoneering trips where they navigated into 4 different slot canyons. These were Mystery, Pinecreek, Yankee Doodle and Boltergeist. Some of these canyons had a 2100 foot difference in elevation.

Playing with grandchildren

We recently got the opportunity to watch/play with two of our grandchildren. Our daughter, Laurie, was touring with the Twilght Moms in the Upper Peninsula of Washington State. They toured all the places where major things happened in the Twilight series.
While our daughter was gone we had the two grandchildren. We had so much fun touring playgrounds, painting, playing with play dough, fishing (where we almost caught one fish) and watching favorite movies.

Long Term Underground Parking

On Saturday, August 23, we took a 4-wheeler side trip. We went 72 miles round trip down to Bull Valley Gorge in the Grand Staircase of the Esclante Park. Wkay and Mike wanted to rappell down the slot canyon that is home to a late 1940-1950 vintage blue green chevrolet swift master pickup. All intact expect the driver's door and the steering column. These had to be removed for recovery.
In October of 1954 three men started out on a hunting trip. They got to the spot where they made camp and was heading back to their homes but never made it. Just after crossing the wooden planks that was the bridge across the slot canyon, they started up a hill. The best scenario is that the truck died or something else happened that caused them to roll backwards. In this motion they missed the planks. The truck fell bed first in to the slot canyon. Two of the men were crushed inside the truck and the other one was thrown out to fall 165 feet below to the bottom of the canyon.

Pauntsagunt 4-wheeling trip

On August 21 - 25 went 4-wheeling at the Pauntsagunt area which is about three miles from the Bryce Canyon border. We 4-wheeled 221 miles on only road on barely 1/3 of the trails. This was a beautiful area with plenty of wild life to see. We saw buck deer, doe deer, fawns, bull elk, red fox, turkeys, snakes and 2 mountain horny toads. They scenery was splendid.
